Unfortunately, today turned out to be more of an equipment test (CB and
GPS) than a good chase. The CB's weather radio works better than
I thought it would, considering I need some sort of noise filter to get
rid of the alternator noise on the regular channels. The GPS works
awesome! What a great tool and no more maps.
We chased for 6 hours/166km and got another free truck wash.
hahaha. Well not actually free. The old truck drank a
tank of gas. lol! Click map to enlarge

Thursday,
July 1, 2004 - Newcastle, ON
We caught up with this storm on Morgans Rd., just out side of Newcastle
around 4:30 pm this afternoon.

Just after this baby passed over, the wind, rain and hail was pretty
intense. My best guess the wind got to around 60 kph with pea sized hail.
Visibility was drastically reduced, so we waited it out before heading
behind it. We never caught up to it but instead witnessed some flooding
and trees down as the result.
We talked with one couple who witnessed 1 inch hail and said it sounded
like their "back door was gonna' come in". And a farmer who owns the downed
tree said he and his partner stood 40 feet inside their barn and they
still got wet from the hail that was blowing in horizontaly.
For
some distance along the middle of Hwy 2 in that area were a lot of small
branches and leaves as well as large branches and trees along the
side.
The Weather Network is saying a tornado possibly touched in Newcastle
but they are waiting for Environment Canada's take on it. Was more
than likely a microburst.

June 14, 2004 - Scarborough, ON
We
caught up with this tornado warned storm at Victoria
Park Ave & Miller Rd. at around 5:30pm. The amount of rotation was amazing
but it couldnt keep it together to go severe, which in this case I was glad
since this is a populated area! Click
